Selenium is in stage 16 of the ironseries. Oxygen and Sulphur are also in that stage which is similar to pisces.

Surrender to the universe, to higher goals, ego sacrifice. Compassion and empathy, selfless work. Seeing the unity of all things. The end of cycles, forming seeds for the next cycle of growth. Mysticism, fails to make normal distinctions. Laziness, victim, martyr, servant. Tends to escapism. Fantasy, drugs, alcohol, religion. Very receptive, sensitive, even psychic. Co-dependency, care-taking.

The complement of pisces is virgo, which is similar to the whole ironseries.

The ironseries has the polarity between critical and indifference with the purpose of function after integrating the quality of pisces. And stage 16 has the polarity between laziness and confusion with the purpose of compassion after integrating the quality of virgo.

Scholten mentions indifference and lazyness in their work.

Feel indifferent to their task. Do not have a sense of duty anymore. Always behind with their work, but always come up with an excuse. Inclined to work shortly, until they have enough to live from. Sloppy, let everything become a chaos. Feeling that they can get things done even if they do not work so hard. Inclined to fantasise about their work. All kind of ideas and fantasies about how it would have been if they had chosen another study or job. Do as if everything is easy for them. When criticised they are inclined to neglect that. Become cynical to those who criticise them.

Scandium is the first remedy in stage 3. The previous series did go from stage 2 to stage 13, but here in the ironseries the 10 stages in between are filled with the transition metals. The zodiacsign that belongs to stage 3 is gemini

Clever, curious, communication. Making connection with surroundings. Trying to figure out, intelligence. Talkative, sociable, loves to interact with others on a superficial level. Unemotional, impersonal, ruled by rationality. Requires great mental stimulation. Playfull, inconstant, attention easily drifts so something new, seeks novelty.

Here with Scandium it has to do with the polarity between curious and anxious in combination with the profession or task (virgo). Scholten talks about trying all kinds of possible jobs.

Don’t know which task to choose. Can not decide, but it has to be perfect. Start all kind of professions, but do not persevere. When something goes wrong, they withdraw and do not go on.

The complementary sign of gemini is sagittarius. With the previous complementary signs there was a projection of their own inner nature on the outside world with Kalium (libra), and the carefull attempt to integrate their own contradictions with Calcium (scorpio).

Now with Scandium (sagittarius) there is an expansion of the worldview. Start looking around but not really get involved yet.

Titanium is in stage 4 of the ironseries and is a transition. The previous stage was similar to gemini, the primordial mind and the next stage is similar to cancer, the primordial soul. So stage 4 is in between and has the characteristics of both.

A word that describes it is double-minded. It is the phase where a rational decision turns out to be different from the actual experience. In Homeopathy and the elements:

Stuck in the initial stage of a project. Always stuck in the beginning of something, always on the point of choosing. We could imagine the situation of someone getting into a boat: one foot is already on board and the other foot is still on land.

So here in stage 4 it is not so much about the polarity of a sign (gemini between curious and anxious, or cancer between claiming and abandon) or the integration of the complementary sign (sagittarius the complement of gemini, and capricorn the compliment of cancer) but more about learning how to let the mind work together with the soul.

The final quality of stage 4 is the ability to talk about and explain emotions and experiences in a logical way.

And with Titanium this is on the individual level of  virgo:

Embodiment of the individual in the world. Problems of adjustment dealing with the world and others. Perfection of the approach to life. Development of mundane skills, ability to change to adapt to life better. Service, helping, perfectionist, always seeking to improve, efficiency, practical, functional, analytical.

Vanadium, the next remedy in the ironseries is in stage 5 which is similar to cancer.

Nurturing, support, emotional bonding, belonging, roots, source. Ground of your being. The unconscious, feelings, emotion, first emotional attachments to the world. Mothering, emotional and physical nurturing. Experiences and imprinting during infancy and childhood. Family, ancestors, heritage, relationships to the past. Belonging, feeling at home, caring. Feeling supported, that needs are provided for. Insecurities and fears if your needs haven’t been fulfilled.

But these are not exactly the qualities people need in their professional life. Scholten talks about high goals and the alternation between succes and failure.

Feel they have to accomplish a lot, high goals, especially in their profession, but do not know if they will succeed. Fear of failure, they think they will make mistakes, and get blamed for not doing it right. Not dare to take responsibity for their choices. If they fail they feel guilty. Accomplishment and failure are two basic expressions.  Have to be successful and do their best for that, with success in the beginning. Also the duality strong and weak.

These characteristics much more resemble the complement of cancer, which is capricorn.

Ambitious, feels pride in accomplishments. Reality, hard facts. Relationship to authority. Serious, determinded, disciplined, focused. Authority figures. Seeks certainties in life. Want things in concrete. Concerned with the practical relationships to support yourself within society.

So here with Vanadium it is not so much the polarity of claiming and abandon (cancer) which is at front, but more the polarity of the totality of cancer with the totality of capricorn.

So with Vanadium there is the struggle with the primordial and the universal part of the zodiac. Alternating between ambition in society (capricorn) and the security of home (cancer).

What is needed is a strong centre, which can take over and bring focus. Here is where the next remedy comes into play, where we enter the individual part of the zodiac in the totality of the ironseries.

Chromium is in stage 6 and is the first remedy from the individual part of the ironseries. The previous stages belonged to the primordial part and missed an individual focus.

The sign that is similar to stage 6 is leo.

Ego development, setting yourself apart from the rest of the world. Self-expression, being true to your inner nature, acting from the heart.

And the complement is aquarius.

Progressive view of things and rarely follow the beaten path. An insatiable urge for discovering that which isn’t known.

Taking this together with the ironseries, being similar to virgo.

Perfectionist, always seeking to improve, efficiency, practical, functional, analytical. Reacts to defeats and setbacks by pulling back and altering approach.

Scholten about stage 6:

They love challenges and even go looking for them. A great need to prove themselves, to show what they can do. If someone challenges them they feel an even greater urge to do it. They have to convince themselves and others that they can do it.

So with Chromium you get an individual who discovers that he has an inner urge (leo) to do things in an unconventional way (aquarius) again and again until he is good enough (virgo).

But the process itself is not something they want others to see. About Chromium in homeopathy and the elements:

Very embarrassed about mistakes, feel very uncomfortable if others see their mistakes. Keep up appearances. Become langwinded about all kind of innocent details.

Manganum is in stage 7 of the ironseries and is in stage as well as in series, similar to virgo.

Problems of adjustment dealing with the world and others. Perfection of the approach to life. Development of mundane skills, ability to change to adapt to life better. Service, helping, perfectionist, always seeking to improve, efficiency, practical, functional.

But also the complement pisces is a well known characteristic.

Compassion and empathy, selfless work. Very receptive, sensitive, even psychic. Co-dependency, care-taking.

Manganum in Homeopathy and the elements.

Want to build out their knowledge and skills. Need a lot of feedback from teacher or guru. Need compliments. Benevolence. Great need to help others. They are very friendly and try to please others. They adjust easily. Inclined to make others feel comfortable, very caring. Sensitive to everything, even clairvoyant. Can bare criticism rather well, can learn from it.

The next three stages repeat the previous ones. The previous three stages where similar to cancer (stage 5), leo (stage 6) and virgo (stage 7). But the emphasis was more on the complements capricorn (high goals), aquarius (challenge) and pisces (benevolence).

With Ferrum in stage 8 of the ironseries, there are the signs cancer and leo. And as a result the compliments capricorn and aquarius.

Words that Scholten uses for stage 8 are:

Persevering, force, pressure, heavy, tension, compress, resistiance, obstruction, through, oppression.

These are all qualities that belong to capricorn and aquarius.

But the difference with the remedy where capricorn also played a role, Vanadium, is that here, with Ferrum there is the combination with leo.

With Vanandium there was the alternation between society (capricorn) and the security of home (cancer).

Here with Ferrum there is the individual focus of leo which makes it a capricorn quality that comes from the inside of the individual. And gives it the power to push through.

And the difference with the remedy where aquarius also played a role, Chromium, is that here with Ferrum, there is the emotional sensitivity of cancer.

And this together with the accomplishment of the task and the critical attitude of the ironseries.

Ferrum in Homeopathy and the elements:

Feeling they have to push through in their work. They push through, go on, no matter how heavy their task is. Very forceful and robust, do not hesitate. It is not so much that they want to practise power, but their task has to be done good. It has to be durable. What they do has to be useful. A heavy task, have to persevere to get it done. Work with great discipline. Hate a bad organisation and disorder. Very sensitive to criticism. See it as obstruction and get very irritated. Have to do their job and can not be distracted and disrupted. Failure because of being too forceful.

Cobaltum is in stage 9 of the ironseries. Like Manganum in stage 7 and like the whole ironseries, stage 9 is similar to virgo.

Embodiment of the individual in the world. Problems of adjustment dealing with the world and others. Perfection of the approach to life. Development of mundane skills, ability to change to adapt to life better. Service, helping, perfectionist, always seeking to improve, efficiency, practical, functional, analytical. Interested in crafts and projects, true to self in a simple, unassuming manner. Reacts to defeats and setbacks by pulling back and altering approach. Lacks confidence in the face of opposition, lives up to duties and responsibilities. Interested in maintaining the body as a fit vehicle.

But along with the perfection and improving of virgo, there is also the insecurity, the isolation and irrational fear of cancer.

Cobaltum misses the confidence and self-expression of leo. Scholten calls it the finishing touch, but they get stuck there and never get to the final completion.

Want to do everything perfect. Have to test everything. Details can give problems. Do not want to make mistakes. Afraid it can all go wrong. Irrational fear, as if they did something wrong, but they do not know what. The feeling easy to make mistakes. Little self-confidence. They know they can do it, but are afraid that it will go wrong. That they will fail. Close, but not yet there. Canceling of a project. The feeling it would have been a failure. Get a black out because of their fears. Typical is give up just before the exam because they think it will go wrong. Feeling of failure before the community. Feel isolated.

With Niccolum we arrive at the top of the ironseries. It is the first remedy where the individual is totally separate from his primordial background. With the 2 previous stages cancer still played a role, but here in stage 10 the emotions are left out. Scholten talks about being cut of from their emotions.

Should not have strong and negative emotions. Think that others will not appreciate their emotions and will not appreciate them if they show those emotions. Hide their negative emotions. Can not feel anything so will not look at emotions. Go on until they do not know anymore what they feel. Do not know what is the matter with them.

The signs that play a role here are leo and virgo. It is the combination of confidence and perfection.

Want to be successful in their work, with their task. There is no doubt about their function. Hard workers. Do their noble duty and want to do that. Are good at it. Want to be the best, at school, at home and at their job. Want to do their job as good as possible, at best perfect, get the best grades at school. Can become haughty. Have to keep themself under control.

But also the compliments aquarius and pisces are seen here.

Restlessness and tense feeling. Do not want to be confronted with something suddenly. Distance to others, no deep relations. Hate being controled. Need to escape of all the rules. Hate bureaucraty, do not hold to rules. Want to go into the wide world. Or go into a complete fantasy world.

Cuprum is in stage 11 of the ironseries, which is similar to libra.

Individual entering into relationship with others, partnership. One-to-one relationships. Meeting others as an equal, interdependency. Encountering repressed part of yourself through others. Going beyond ego boundaries. Peace, harmony, balance, social awareness. Learning how to get along with others, treating others as equals. Art, beauty, harmonious surroundings, distressed by inharmonious interactions. Dialogue, debate, conflict, enemies, justice.

Libra is the first sign above the horizon of the zodiac. With aries the process started with a new moon phase, and here with libra it is full moon, the process turns around.

But now it is in the outside world, and libra represents the ‘other’, as opposed to the ‘me’ of aries.

Libra is the polarity between projecting and ignorance with the final purpose of reflection. And this in the ironseries which is similar to virgo.

Lives up to duties and responsibilities.

So at this point the skills are developed, but now others react to that. And how far do you go in maintaining your own approach.  This might explain the cramping state of Cuprum.

In Homeopathy and the elements:

Very serious. Not want to loose control. Keep emotions under control, stay friendly and kind. Hold on to thoughts. Precise and rigid. Rules have to be followed, than nothing can go wrong. Rules give a sense of safety. Others also have to follow the rules. And if others do not follow the rules they will tell. Need to double-check everything. Everything has to be perfectly tested. Feel a guard of the order and can be very irritated if others disturb that order. Because of the rigid compulsive behaviour they incline to rituals, a meaningless stereotype sequence of proceedings. Superstition. Sensitive to criticism. Very angry if others criticise them, touch them or even look at them. Need to hide and escape. Others have to obey the rules, fulfil their duty and keep their promise.

Zincum is the last remedy in the individual part of the ironseries. It is in stage 12 which is similar to scorpio.

Transformation, change, ego-death, rebirth, transcendence. Intense emotional involvement with the process of personal growth. Movement from individual certainties to the mysteries of life. Spirit breaking through the limitations of the individual ego. Intense, passionate, brooding, magnetic, unyielding, driven by emotions. Stands up for self, usually covertly, manipulates power. Understands deeper layers of the psyche beyond the ego, unable to communicate this well leading to misunderstandings. Intrigued by the dark side of life. The underground, people whose job involves going beneath surface appearances. Breaking free of illusory limitations. Self-mastery.

The individual part of the ironseries started with expression (leo), develop skills to function (virgo) and then reflection (libra) from the outside world. Now with scorpio, the repressed part of the self has to be integrated.

With Zincum this integration goes along with virgo. In Prisma:

Pure zincum obstinately resists attacks, which gives rise to two conflicting philosophical conclusions: the praise of purity, which protects from evil like a coat of mail. And the praise of impurity, which gives rise to changes, in other words, to life. In order for the wheel to turn, for life to be lived, impurities are needed.

Scholten mentions the endless repetitions which result in pollution.

Succeed in their work, but overdo it. Restless. Tics en restless movements. Aggravation when resting. Stressed with study and school. Because of the over-straining of the intellect they can perform very well in the beginning. Later on it can be the other way around, a mental dullness. Learning by repeating endlessly. Repetition and copying can have a huge pollution as a result. More and more of the same. Endless copying. Feeling others obstruct their work. Stubbornness and repeating of old methods makes them go wrong. To hard work leads to failure, which is denied. Guilty after failure, feeling they committed a crime. Feel pushed by superiors and parents.

Here at this point is the transition from the individual part of the zodiac into the universal part, seen in the totality of the ironseries.

The previous transition was the individual becoming separate from his primordial background. It was the transition from the primordial soul (cancer) into the individual spirit (leo).

With this transition the individual soul (scorpio) goes over into the universal spirit (sagittarius). It is the point where the experiences of the individual have to be seen in a bigger whole.

Becoming a member of a wider society. Experiences that lead to consciousness expansion. Being receptive to new points of view, wisdom, enlightenment. Using your talents for the benefit of the greater whole. Freedom loving, idealist, unfetterd by small thinking, inspiration, religion, philosophy, the law. Awareness of connections to the rest of the world, can be distant from others. Afraid to give up freedom, reluctant to be tied down, aware of the value of the social contract. Enthusiastic, generous, loves abstract, theoretical ideas, sees the big picture, ignores the details. In love with an ideal, strong opinion. Foreign travel, liberating experiences.

But with Gallium this is in the limited totality of the ironseries and therefore a limited expression of the sagittarius principle.

Narrow-minded and obstinately attached to their own opinion and intolerant toward others. Often jump to conclusions without taking all factors into consideration.

Gallium is in stage 13 which is the same stage as Boron (carbonseries) and Aluminium  (siliciumseries).

The purpose of sagittarius is to develop a vision after exploring the polarity of judgement and withdrawal. The vision has to go beyond the individual viewpoint.

Gallium in Homeopathy and the elements:

Hold on to their known methods. Can not see other possibilities because they are trapped in their own pattern. See that their pattern does not have optimal results, technique is obsolete and see that others have better results. Can not keep up with new techniques and feel threatened to loose his job to someone younger. Try to hold on, but everything changes. Withdraw on old routines. Nostalgia. Want to do everything their own way. Stay independent. Withdrawing to their own island of self opinionated safety. There is no point in entering a discussion.

The complement is gemini which is about interaction. Instead of judgement and withdrawal there has be an exchange with other visions about individual experiences.

Next remedy of the ironseries is Germanium. It is in stage 14, like Carbon and Silicium, which is similar to capricorn.

Bring about the perfect society. Making practical, efficient connections with others on the physical plane. Ambitious, feels pride in accomplishments. Reality, hard facts. Relationship to authority. Serious, determined, disciplined, focused. Fathering, disciplining love. Authority figures. Seeks certainties in life. Want things in concrete. Concerned with the practical relationships to support yourself within society. Not interested in blue sky ideas, needs to bring theory into concrete reality. Knowing the rules and playing the game.

Stage 14 in Homeopathy and the elements is about an empty shell and wearing a mask.

Lost control. Makes them feel empty, as if all life has drained away. Paced on a side track. Still there for the show, but their real role has come to an end. Masters in changing the subject when things get a bit too close. Al energy has been absorbed. Inclined to hand their responsibility over to others. Hide behind norms and rules. Formal and distant. The outer form becomes more important than what is inside. Great importance to etiquette, protocol, ceremonies and standard procedures. Conventional, conforming to the rules. Cover up all their actions. Only see the outside, a facade, a mask. This mask makes them stiff, reserved, stoic. All you see is an empty shell, the inside has gone. Pretend that nothing is wrong.  Conservative.

This is like the capricorn principle taken too far, without integrating the emotions of the complementary sign of cancer.

Germanium is the combination of capricorn (stage 14) with virgo (ironseries). Scholten talks about a formal profession.

Germanium is the classic type of civil servant. Maintain the order but aren’t really interested. Hiding behind formalities. Work with lots of official forms, so they can be sure they won’t personally be held responsible for anything. Hold back information, hiding behind a mask of perfectionism. Restricted, a prisoner of controlled movement. The outside appearance may still be there, but it is only an empty shell. They are powerless to carry out their task, but they pretend everything is fine and running as normal.

With Kalium we arrive at the ironseries of the periodic table. The previous series of the human development, where about the manifestion of a strong personality in the carbonseries, and learning how to interact with others in the siliciumseries. With Sulphur and Chlorine, the personality transformed into an individual, which acts from an inner source.

Here in the ironseries the duty begins, it is the start of a profession, learn how to accomplish a task. So the central theme of the ironseries is function, the alternation between critical and indifferent.

Kalium is in stage 1, the same as Hydrogen, Lithium and Natrium. It is similar to aries, which is the polarity between irritable and exhaustion. Getting started with a task, impulsive function. Scholten talks about just doing their duty.

Very conscious about their task. They work best alone. Stoic they go their own way, and do not like others to interfere with their task. Naive follow their own routine, which makes them rigid. Not reflect their principles. No need to talk about it, just have to do their job. With their impulsiveness and optimism they can accomplish much. But it can get overdone and lead to failures. They do not think their way of working through.

The complementairy sign of the whole ironseries is pisces. In the first part of the series this is seen in the outside world and in stage 1 this goes together with libra, the complement of aries.

So Kalium has to work hard, because laziness (pisces) and ignorance (libra) are not recognised as a part of the self.

The next remedy of the ironseries is Calcium. It is in stage 2, the same as Beryllium and Magnesium, and is similar to taurus.

Calcium is a combination of two earthsigns with the complement of two watersigns. Earth and watersigns are both passive, which is a well known characteristic of Calcium in homeopathy.

Another important item of Calcium is fear (taurus) of criticism (virgo). In homeopathy and the elements:

Fear of what others might think of them. Especially watched in their work. Afraid that it will not be good enough. The fear that others will not find them good enough, shows in a strong sensitivity for criticism. Undergo the criticism passive, have no defense against it, except closing off. Try to do their work as good as possible, so that nobody can criticise it. Try to cover up their mistakes. The cause is often that others criticised them openly. Feeling that everything has to be done according regulations, inclined to check everything.

The essence of Calcium is the delusion that others will observe their confusion. Confusion is, like laziness, also a form of pisces, the complementary sign of the whole ironseries.

So with Kalium in stage 1 this complement is only seen in the outside world. Here with Calcium in stage 2 there is an awareness of their own inner nature, but not something they want to be part of their personality.

19. Kalium

20. Calcium

Hydrogen is placed in stage 1 of the hydrogenseries. As a result, that gives the connection with aries.

Activity that is selfmotivated, unaffected by others. New beginnings, the start of new cycles, birth, vitality. Agressive, willful, powerful, assertive. Focussed in short bursts, unlikely to sustain interest in the long term. Adventurous, pioneering, worriortype energy, impatient, works best alone. Unconcerned with approval or acceptance. Lacks persistance and stamina. Honest and fortright.

Although this is part of the homeopathic picture of Hydrogen, it is not the whole story. Sherr about the proving of Hydrogen:

We can look at Hydrogen in terms of it being first born, as being both positive and negative and possessing pattern, or structure. It is rewarding to see some of the foregoing aspects emerge in this new proving. Thus we have: ‘I felt in the presence of pure energy’ and ‘I feel I have moved into a different state of consciousness, and there aren’t any guiding posts or means of navigation, a bit like being lost in space’.

There is this presence of pure energy which is certainly aries, but there is also the ‘lost in space’ which is more a quality of pisces.

Surrender to the universe, to higher goals, ego sacrifice. Compassion and empathy, selfless work. Seeing the unity of all things. The ends of cycles, forming seeds for the next cycle of growth. Mysticism, fails to make normal distinctions. Laziness, victim, martyr, servant, tends to escapism. Fantasy, drugs, alcohol, religion. Very receptive, sensitive, even psychic. Co-dependency, caretaking.

So it has to do with ‘moving into a different state of conciousness’, coming from the state of pisces into the state of aries.

Or the universal soul into the primordial spirit.

He also says ‘being both positive and negative and possessing pattern, or structure’.

As can be seen with the two other important changes in human life, puberty and midlife, there is only the potential (spirit and soul) to transform into structure (mind and body).

In the case of Hydrogen this is the transformation from the universal into the primordial state.

Helium is in stage 18 of the hydrogenseries. Stage 18 belongs to the noble gases, which have the maximum number of electrons in their outer shell, making them stable.

Some stages are similar to more than one sign of the zodiac, but stage 18 is similar to none.  It is the end of a series and the beginning of a new one.

Not wanting to do anything and stay inactive, without motion. No need for contact and want to stay apart. Locked in. Not wanting to be disturbed. Denial.

The hydrogenseries again gives the connection with aries.

Helium is the least reactive of the noble gases and thus also the least reactive of all elements. Scholten mentions a connection with autism.

They do not want to go into the world and rather stay in their own world. Not interested in the value and purpose of life. They do not feel any affinity with that, they just live. The stadium of incarnation is over, they accept that they are here and do not doubt that. But they do not want to figure out who they are. They are untouchable because of that, others cannot get a hold of them. It is as with authistic children, they can not be approached. They do not react and stay who they are. You can get no contact.

Here is the start of the carbonseries, where energy gets concentrated and takes a form. It is the first of the series that are reflected by the earth-signs of the zodiac.

The sign that follows aries in the zodiac is taurus.

Grounding, bringing down to earth. Constancy, steadiness, entering matter, taking on a form. Earthy, grounded, in touch with the body. Sensual, pleasure seeking. Stubborn, fixed, stands their ground. Focuses and concentrates energy, gives it concrete expression. Practical, provides stamina and persistance. Slow, steady and methodical.

In the human development it is in the form of the physical body.

This series is the hardest to understand. The reason is that the theme is so general and therefore so vague. Words like ‘life’, ‘body’ and ‘being’ are very general and every problem has its result on the physical body. This level is therefore difficult to separate from other levels.

The whole series has to do with manifestation, which has to find the balance between stubborn and fear.

The complement is a polarisation between manipulation and abuse, which I call integration. Every element in the carbonseries has this theme in its own way.

So Lithium in stage 1 of the carbonseries is called  ’impulsive manifestion’.

Scholten again:

Beginning of self discovery. Cannot decide and busy with details without coming to a conclusion. Just acting impulsive, so often things go wrong. Others do not understand what was meant, or what they do is way overdone. Desillusions. Just try again and again. A sort of trial and error. Prone to the extremes of good and evil. From one extreme into the other. Easy influenced and take over others opinion. Need authorities that can tell them how the world works.

The next remedy in the carbonseries is Beryllium. It is in stage 2 which is similar to taurus, just like the carbonseries itself.

So here it is all about manifestation and the polarity of stubborn and fear will be very present.

All the more the complement (scorpio) will be suppressed and comes from the world outside. So they can be easily manipulated and abused.

Stage 2 in Homeopathy and the elements:

Feeling looked at. Want to be appreciated. Look at the value of things. Have to compare. Insecure and passive. Modest. Adjust easy. Difficult to take their own space. Give away their power. Want to shield. Retract and search for safety. Need to get and also give support. Sense of duality.

And this combined with the personal level gives Beryllium.

So it is all about growing and gaining strength. Integrating the power to become a strong and healthy person.

There is already an awareness of the world outside, but there is no real interaction yet. Interaction is a gemini theme that starts it’s role in the next remedy.

Boron, the remedy that follows in the carbonseries, is in stage 13, which is similar to sagittarius, the universal spirit.

This phase of development is the polarity between judging and withdraw. But this is all in an immature way and on the very personal level of the carbonseries.

Scholten talks about the most extreme expression of Boron as multiple personality disorder.

There is the confusion about themselves, not knowing who they really are yet. Understanding other peoples struggle and the suffering of the world. Not being strong enough, because of the weak ‘I’.

But the compliment is gemini which is about interaction. The interaction that has to take place, to get to know and accept those different personalities.

Carbon ends up in stage 14 of the carbonseries. The astrological similarity is capricorn, the universal body.

Making practical, efficient connections with others on the physical plane. Ambitious, feels pride in accomplishments. Reality, hard facts. Relationship to authority. Serious, determinate, disciplined, focused. Fathering, disciplining love. Authority figures. Seeks certainties in life. Want things in concrete. Concerned with the practical relationships to support yourself within society. Not interested in blue sky ideas, needs to bring theory into concrete reality. Knowing the rules and playing the game.

It is the polarity between formal and depressed on the personal level of the carbonseries.

The purpose of this phase is a constructive manifestation.

Carbon in Homeopathy and the elements:

Stable values. Rigid or labile person. Timidity. Self-value and valuation of life. No inner centre. No reference. Mood-swings, crying, emotional. Need support. Negative self-image. Not want to be disturbed. Traditional. Social valuation. Hard workers. Slow, robust.

He talks about borderline as an extreme expression of Carbon.

That gives the association with cancer, the complimentary sign of capricorn, which has the polarity between claiming and abandon. These are the emotions that have to become part of the personality, instead of being taken over by them. This integration of emotions should result in a person with a strong inner centre.

Nitrogen is the remedy in stage 15 of the carbonseries, which is the polarity between destruction and nervousness. The abstract theme of aquarius, the universal mind, is invention.

Freedom and cooperation between individuals. Free-thinking, unorthodox, far-sighted, idealistic, utopian. Impersonal thinking, detached from emotional considerations. Interested in focusing the mind to formulate new and unusual ways of dealing with people, groups society and the world. Progressive view of things and rarely follow the beaten path. An insatiable urge for discovering that which isn’t known. Or developing that which is known into something which is new, refreshing and completely different.

Here on the personal level of the carbonseries there is the unconventional urge to explore their own personality.

Scholten about Nitrogen:

Expansion of the ego. Assertion. Look confident but there is doubt. Will not show that. Selfconfidence based on support  from others. Expansion of selfvalue. Others should appreciate them. Enthousiastic. Carry out ideas. Pushy. Holding on: tension. Can not relax, although great need to. Explosive. Impatience. Holding on. Many fears. Not forgiving.

The complementary sign is Leo, which is the polarity between arrogant and disrespected. And when it is finally balanced, there is a solid confidence on the personal level.

Oxygen is in stage 16 of the carbonseries, which is similar to pisces, the last sign of the zodiac. The personal development is coming to an end, although there are two more stages before the next series, where the space expands to interact with others.

The abstract ideal of pisces is compassion which has the polarity between laziness and confusion.

Scholten talks about the problem of Oxygen with really coming into life.

Holding on to possession. Trouble finding the balance between giving and taking. They are afraid of loosing their possessions and fearful hold on to them. Or indifferent to possessions. Fear of being selfish. Stay with themselves and outside life. Stay with their inner qualities and look at life from the outside in, without taking part. Complaining, demanding, cannot wait.

The complementary sign is virgo, which has the polarity of critical and indifferent.

The fusion of compassion and function should lead to coming into real life, but staying pure inside.

The elements in stage 17 are called the halogens and are highly reactive. They easily form compounds with other elements, so they are part of many homeopathic pictures in the form of fluoratums, muriaticums, bromiums and iodatums.

They are at the end of each series, after the last sign of the zodiac in stage 16, and before the transformation to a new cycle that belongs to stage 18.

Stage 17 in Homeopathy and the elements:

Releasing is central for this stage. As soon as they see that they cannot hold on to the past, and that letting go is the best thing to do, they are a big step ahead. That is the power of this stage. As long as they fight it, the pain and grief will increase.

In the early development of the series the complementary sign is not well known yet, and seems to come from the world outside. But in the later development of each series, the complement is more a characteristic of the remedy.

In the carbonseries that means that scorpio is very manifest in the later stages. And manipulation and abuse play an important role in those remedies, especially Fluor.

Scholten about Fluor:

The tendency to release all values. Free

and immoral behaviour. Need the glamour

and admiration of others to confirm their

feeling of self-value. It is all about the

beautiful smooth, but hard outside. Take

what they want, without considering others.

Manifest themselves even at the cost of

others. They need contact to fill their own

void. But if the other becomes to strong,

          they go away.

Here is the transition from the carbonseries into the siliciumseries. The manifestation is now completed and must go to interaction.  But with Neon, in stage 18, the transformation gets stuck.

The whole carbonseries is symbolised by taurus, the primordial body, which is the first earth-sign of the zodiac.

Next series is similar to the first air-sign, gemini, the primordial mind.

Neon in Homeopathy and the elements:

They are worth a lot but do not want to get into relations with others. Rather stay with themselves without getting involved. Free of good and evil. Like to be unbound. Without needs. They feel locked up in their selves. Transition of their own inner world to the world of relations.

With Natrium we arrive at the siliciumseries. With the completing of the personality, which took place in the carbonseries, it is now time to interact with other people. The manifestation of a strong personality was the quest of that previous series. The personality symbolised by taurus and it’s strength by the complementary sign, scorpio.

With the siliciumseries the interest in the surrounding world emerges, the world outside the personal space. This part of the human development is similar to the next sign of the zodiac, gemini

Natrium, which is in stage 1 of this sociable and interacting series, is doing that in the characteristic way of aries.

Activity that is self-motivated, unaffected by others. New beginnings, the start of new cycles, birth, vitality. Agressive, willful, assertive. Focussed in short bursts, unlikely to sustain interest in the long term. Adventurous, pioneering, warriour-type energy, impatient, works best alone. Unconcerned with approval or acceptance. Lacks persistance and stamina. Honest and fortright.

Scholten mentions the withdrawal from relationships. Here the complementary signs come into play. Libra, the compliment of aries, has to do with relationships. And sagittarius, the compliment of gemini, has the withdrawal.

Natrium is well known for the silent grief after a relationship.

Going impulsive into relations. Can not reflect on their own behaviour in a relation. Very vulnerable for rejection. Sensitive for the behaviour of the other. Disappointed they withdraw. Give up on relationships. Feeling of a wall between them and the rest of the world. Fixed on one relationship and loosing that, gives an enormous shock.  Withdraw from relations. Don’t like company and consolation. Keep their problems to themself, very closed. No need to talk about their problems.

Aluminium is placed in stage 13 of the siliciumseries, the same stage as Boron in the carbonseries.

The two signs involved are gemini and sagittarius.

The next step in the interaction of the siliciumseries is developing a personal vision. After the polarity of manipulation and abuse from Magnesium, it is now the polarity of judging and withdrawal. Or on a more physical level, the polarity between expansion and retraction.

Aluminium in nature immediately reacts with oxygen and forms clay, which is the Alumina that is mainly used in homeopathy. In Prisma:

Nature seems to expect aluminium to remain clay because the metal is difficult to extract. The key process for fertile soil is the formation of clay.

Expansion might explain the dryness, which is a marked characteristic of Alumina. As clay that has gone to far from its source and dries out.

Alumina in homeopathy is also well known for the confusion about his own identity. Scholten mentions the typical symptome ‘not recognise themselves when they look in the mirror’.

With this confusion they can avoid responsibility. Acting under influence of others. Doing something because others tell them to. Can not decide which ideas to follow.  Always afraid to choose wrong.

The complementary sign is gemini with the polarity between curious and anxious, which is the same theme as the whole siliciumseries is about.

As a result the final purpose of Aluminium is a visionary interaction. That is to interact with other people based on their own opinion.

Silicium is in stage 14 of the siliciumseries, the series of interaction. It is the same stage as Carbon and it is similar to capricorn, which is the polarity between formal and depressed.

The final purpose is construction, making the vision of Aluminium concrete, leading to a constructive interaction.

Capricorn and gemini represent the body and mind. They have to integrate the spirit and soul, which are represented by the complementary signs, cancer and sagittarius.

About Silicea in Prisma:

The conflict between inner and outer life. Too much in the head, not in touch with instinct and feeling, not rooted. Indecision is a big problem. Mind doing one thing and body doing another. Scientific thinking temperament battling with the artistic feeling or intuitive temperament. The split often occurs in the field of relationships with others. The person can be pulled between their own needs and the expectations of others.

Well known is the lack of self-confidence which has to do with interaction and the overworked mental state.

It is a matter of communication, a fear of being unable to find exactly the right words. Seeks for words and has even greater difficulty in expressing his thoughts in writing. Nevertheless he wants to go on working, even though he has reached the limit of his endurance long ago.

Phosphorus is in stage 15 of the siliciumseries, the same stage as Nitrogen. After the construction of a personal vision, it is now time to extend the interaction to new people and new places.

The astrological sign here is aquarius

Freedom and cooperation between individuals. Free-thinking, unorthodox, far-sighted, idealistic, utopian. Impersonal thinking, detached from emotional considerations. Interested in focusing the mind to formulate new and unusual ways of dealing with people, groups, society and the world.

Scholten mentions the many friends, learning and desire to travel.

See someone as a friend even if they only know him shortly. Want to share their friends with other friends. Another aspect of the communication is the use of language. Talking, listening, writing, reading, thinking and learning. Learning especially as an exchange of knowledge, not so much of achieving. Desire travel because of the constant change of people, places and cultures.

Phosphorus is well known for an open mind and sees the whole world as a field of study. This leads to inventive interaction, but it can also go into extremes of nervousness and destruction.

Great susceptibility to external impressions, to light, sound, odors, touch, electrical changes, thunderstorms. Suddenness of symptoms, sudden prostration, shooting pains. Produces a picture of destructive metabolism.

The quality that has to be integrated is the individual spirit. This is leo, the complement of aquarius. Which is about personal expression, and is also the centre of the next homeopathic remedy, Sulphur.

Here at this point is the transition from the primordial into the individual area, which is the centre of the human development.

With Sulphur we arrive at puberty during the human development. Here is the transition from the primordial part of the zodiac into the individual part.

The earth- and airsigns represent the series of the periodic table, while the fire- and watersigns mark the transition between them.

Sulphur is in stage 16 which is the same stage as Oxygen, and shares the similarity with pisces, which resembles here the fantasies and lazyness.

Although still part of the siliciumseries, this part is called Sulphur as a subseries and is very similar to leo, the individual spirit:

Ego development, setting yourself apart from the rest of the world. Becoming your own person. Self-expression, being true to your inner nature, acting from the heart. Dawning awareness of self in relation to others. Ego, self-centred, arrogant. Creative expression. Needs to be center of attention, likes to be noticed and appreciated. Personal integrity, honorable, trustworthy, self-assured, confident.

Expression is the purpose here, but the polarity arrogant and disrespect has to be explored first. Here with Sulphur the individuation process begins:

Individuation is a natural, inherent process in man. It cannot be stimulated by something external, but it grows from the inside. Just as the body can become deformed or sick by lack of nutrition or movement, the personality can be deformed by lack of experience or education.

But also the complementary signs are well known characteristics of Sulphur. The philosophical theorizing (sagittarius) about revolutionary ideas (aquarius) and also the knowledge of many details (virgo).

Chlorine in homeopathy is best known as muriaticum. The picture is very similar to the astrological picture of cancer, the primordial soul.

Scholten talks about the close relationship between mother and child.

It is a relation that has to end sometime, the child has to go it’s own way as an adult.

But also relations in general:

Afraid the other will abandon them or die. Feeling they are abandoned and do not dare to move on in life. Keep brooding about past relations.

Chlorine is in stage 17 which is the same as Fluor. So it is mainly about the polarity between claiming and abandon (cancer) and about holding on and release (stage 17).

The complementary sign (capricorn) also plays an important role here with the polarity between formal and depressed.

The goal is to learn how to use the emotions in a constructive way.

Argon is like Helium and Neon in stage 18, which is the place where one series transforms into another.  With Argon that is the transition from the siliciumseries into the ironseries.

This is at the same time a transformation from the primordial part of the zodiac into the individual part.  This transformation already started with Sulphur, but that was only a potential inner process.

Here it should manifest in the world outside. If this inner process has resulted in an individual, who is convinced of his own creative potential (leo) and can deal with his emotions (cancer), it is now time to become really good at something (virgo).

Duties and responsibilities. Interested in maintaining the body as a fit vehicle.

It is the polarity between critical and indifferent and should result in a function. A function that builds a strong individual who is capable of dealing with the world.

The next remedy is Magnesium in stage 2 of the siliciumseries. After the impulsive interaction of Natrium, we now have the interaction with the polarisation between stubborn and fear.

The purpose of this stage is to come to a manifest interaction, but before that can be accomplished there has to be dealth with manipulation and abuse. The polarity between stubborn and fear belongs to taurus and the polarity between manipulation and abuse to the complementary sign scorpio

This basic principle is the same as it was in the carbonseries, where the whole series can be seen in that light.

The difference here in stage 2 of the siliciumseries, is that it all has to do with the interaction with other people. There is an exchange of forces which has to be handled with flexibility instead of being to static.

Vermeulen in Prisma about the role of Magnesium in the body:

Magnesium deficiency reduces offensive aggressive behaviour but increases defensive aggressive behaviour. Lower levels of magnesium supplementation increase the number of attacks on intruders while higher levels have the opposite effect.

Magnesium in Homeopathy and the elements:

The essential question is where they are in the relation and where the other. How to stand up for yourself and at the same time keep the relation good. Fear that the relation will be broken. To avoid that, they do not defend their own space. Avoidance of aggression can become an ideal. Becoming a pacifist.

Arsenicum album is one of the best known remedies in homeopathy. The picture comes from Arsenic trioxide, which is Arsenicum (ironseries, stage 15) and Oxygen (carbonseries, stage 16).

This means an emphasis on the astrological signs virgo (ironseries and complement of stage 16) and pisces (stage 16 and complement of ironseries).

These explain the fastidiousness and tidiness (virgo) and the decline and decay (pisces).

The other signs that play a role with Arsenicum album are taurus (carbonseries), aquarius (stage 15), scorpio (complement carbonseries) and leo (complement stage 15). These explain the possessiveness and many fears (taurus), the extreme restlessness and destructive processes (aquarius), the obsession and suspicion (scorpio) and the selfishness (leo).

The picture of pure Arsenicum is a combination of virgo (ironseries) and aquarius (stage 15).

It is in the same stage as Nitrogen and Phosphorus. Stage 15 is the polarity between destructive and nervousness (aquarius).

And the ironseries is the polarity between critical and indifferent (virgo).

The final purpose is inventive function.

Accomplished by integrating the complementary signs leo (expression) and pisces (compassion).

2. Helium

5. Boron

3. Lithium

33. Arsenicum
